Quality Engineer

Reporting to the VP of Quality, the Quality Engineer will be asked to perform a wide array of tasks that support the delivery of product that meets or exceeds our customer’s quality expectation. The Quality Engineer will be assigned some or all of the Duties and Responsibilities as described below

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. “Customer” Support
    • The primary role of every QA is to support the external Customer and/or the Shop Floor immediately whether it is a quality concern, inspection technique or tools, part documentation or verification.
    • Perform, as needed, quality audits, Production Readiness Reviews, specific part inspections, etc.
  2. Supplier Management; To serve our “customers”, incoming supply must be correct
    • This includes new supplier validation on product PPAP’s, monitoring supplier performance, supplying feedback (and debits if necessary) up to disqualification, if necessary.
  3. Customer New Product Realization
    • Beginning with the New Project Review, support product realization with required validation and documentation which may include PPAP, Capability Studies, initial part measurement, internal quality documentation to name a few. The part must be ready to run with designed quality tools on planned schedule.
  4. Quality Systems
    • Quality Management System (QMS) and Customer Systems
      • Has a complete working knowledge of the B&D QMS system
      • Has a working knowledge of external customer quality systems as necessary. Quality engineers will be assigned ‘client’ customers
  5. Maintains Documentation
    • Ensure floor part drawings are current revision level
    • Ensure quality documents are updated as part drawings are revised
    • Ensure quality documents are current and correct (work orders, control plans, etc.)
  6. Auditor Certification
    • Certification as an external auditor to current QMS standard is required.
    • Perform internal audits of the QMS as necessary.
  7. Manages All Measurement Tools including
    • Identification, certification, calibration, maintenance and repair, storage and control

Employment Standards

Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance. Typical qualifications are professional degree or training in Quality requirements and SPC, a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Quality function.

Knowledge: Principles and practices of Quality Management and SPC. Use of typical tools and equipment used in quality control. Knowledge of all quality measurement tools from hand micrometer to CMM devices.

Skills: Strong organizational skills, developing and maintaining accurate records and reports; effective use of time and materials to ensure quality parts to the customer on time; analyzing and independently solving process problems; interpersonal communications verbally and in writing, with a diverse range of people; maintaining effective business relations with other departments and customers.
